According to societaI beliefs, an organizations most valuable asset is its employees. This is a statement so simple, yet often misinterptreted. However, contrary to popular belief and given the shifting dynamics of the modern workplace, it comes as no surprise that employees yield less influence in the decision-making processes of a business. It must be borne in mind, that employees constitute a critical link of any business and should subsequently be given the opporunity to develop. The essence of establishing a business is the bottom line, or in simplistic terms, to make a profit. With regards to internal growth, performance appraisals in organizations serve as a means of aiding the employer in identifying employees who meet certain criteria for promotion. Opportunities for promotion give employees the ability to establish goal-attainment ambitions. Internal growth opportunities such as the designation of increased responsibility or coordination of projects (Rennekamp et al.), subsequently yield a greater sense of appreciaition for the employee and further translates into growth. Cross-cultural employee interactions assist in bridging cultural gaps and yield greater appreciation for individuals of different cultures, which in turn also contributes to internal growth. Employee creativity is also of paramount importance in any organization.
